Melon Thief

Watercolor, gouache and ink on paper.

My family invents games: here, each of us digs out as much watermelon as we can without crossing into another's section. The lines divide us, but every line is shared. In a family, borders connect us.

In “Melon Thief” , my grandma and I each try to tunnel into each others’ assigned share of the watermelon, capturing a moment of friendly competition and shared joy.
