Seattlescape

This collection depicts places around Seattle that have become familiar to me, from its residential streets to its quieter natural spaces. Rather than treating the city as a single landscape, I wanted to capture the distinct moods of the places I encounter.

I used different media to emphasize the most visually compelling qualities of each scene rather than trying to represent them all in the same style. Ink pen allowed me to focus on intricate details and texture, while oil pastel gave me greater freedom to exaggerate color and light. With gouache, I experimented with opaque layers and simplified forms to capture the atmosphere of the lake scene without rendering every detail.

Working on these scenes made me pay closer attention to places I normally pass without thinking. I began noticing how shifts in light, weather, architecture, and color could make familiar settings feel completely different.
